Fried Tacos

This taco recipe comes from my great Grandmother. I never got the chance to meet her, but I’ve been told she was an amazing woman- who did hand stands, gave the best hugs, and loved cooking for her family. I’m sure her and I would have been besties.

One thing I’m not sure about, is if I’m actually allowed to share this “recipe,” since it’s pretty much our family’s thing…all 72,000 of us.

***Cousins, I’m doing this for the good of all mankind***

We’re a pretty tight knit group, considering how large of a group we actually are. We love finding excuses to get together over our family tacos. Memorial Day? Let’s have tacos! It’s your birthday? Let’s have Tacos! It’s a random Tuesday in June? Let’s have tacos!!!!

No matter the time between our visits, or which cousins are at which “Taco Tuesday” …we still remain one big, slightly nutty, loving, loyal family – bonded by TACOS

(These ones were made by my wonderful Nana- I was just there to take pics, grate cheese, and stuff my gob)

You’ll need:

  • 2 lbs Hamburger
  • 2 cups grated cheddar cheese
  • 8-10 corn tortillas
  • Salt n peppa (the spice, not the singers)
  • Canola or vegetable oil (for frying)

Start by seasoning the hamburger to your taste, by mixing in salt and pepper

Grate cheese. Sneak a bite.

Form a thin patty of hamburger onto half the corn tortilla, like so…

Keep goin’

Now you’re ready to fry, on medium-high heat, with about a 1/4 inch of oil in the pan (add more oil as new batches come in)

The corn tortilla will begin to soften, about a minute or less into the cooking, so it’s safe to fold them over without breaking them

Let them Brown up, and you’re ready to flip the whole taco

When they’re nice and golden brown, (and the meat is cooked on the inside), remove them to a paper towel lined pan. You can start filling the hot tacos with cheese to begin the melty awesomeness.

*keep finished batches in a warm oven if you are making a bunch*

Now all that’s left is to top with your favorite taco fixin’s and crack open a corona that’s properly dressed.

Hope these bring your family together like they do ours❤
